State Superintendent of Public Instruction Resigns

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow has resigned from her position.

In a release, she announced that Virginia Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin asked her to serve as Virginia’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. A position that she accepted.

The Superintendent’s resignation is effective January 16th. The Republican Party Central Committee will have 15 days to submit three candidates to the Governor for consideration. The Governor will then have five days to appoint a new Superintendent from the names submitted. That individual will serve for the remainder of Balow’s term. During that time, Kari Eakins will serve as the interim State Superintendent and then she will return to her position as Chief Policy Officer at the Wyoming department of education.
