Shots Fired Investigation

A report of shots fired in an area near a Cheyenne elementary school led to heightened security measures, Tuesday. Cheyenne police say the report came in at the American Legion post on East Lincolnway.

Police say the suspect — 45 year old Andy Kirkendall — of Cheyenne, entered the building and pointed a gun at the security camera.

Later when officers approached him sitting at the intersection of Big Horn Avenue and East 13th Street, investigators say he fired the gun and ran away.

As a precaution at the time, law enforcement put a secure perimeter around Alta Vista Elementary School. Officers took one man into custody, no one was hurt.  Officers chased Kirkendall and used a taser to stop him and took him into custody.
