Missing WWII Vet Receives Headstone, 77 Years Later

After 77 years– more than seven decades–a missing Wyoming World War II veteran is finally acknowledged and honored for his service with a headstone.

On Friday, which was POW MIA recognition day, fallen World War II veteran Major Virgil Olds received a headstone marker at the Node cemetery outside of Lusk.

Cowboy State Daily reports, the American Legion post 1 of Van Tassell and Niobrara County VFW made the recognition possible.

Olds was a fighter pilot whose aircraft was shot down while flying over Tokyo, Japan in 1945. His body was never recovered.
